Michael Porter Jr. describes back pain that began in high school, was diagnosed as degenerative disc disease and herniated discs, and led to three back surgeries without lasting relief. After reading Dr. Sarno's work and practicing journal speak with Nicole Sachs, he reports his pain subsided and he played an entire NBA season without missing a game to back issues. His story shows that persistent pain after successful surgeries can have sources other than the injured tissue itself, and that a body can go on to perform at an elite level again.
