Jim's Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Story

Jim developed chronic fatigue syndrome suddenly in 2019 after years of intense work stress, experiencing headaches, insomnia, post-exertional malaise, tinnitus, and neurological symptoms despite normal test results. He is not fully recovered, but his trajectory has been steadily improving, with symptom flares becoming fewer and less acute, and he reports real progress from pacing, meditation, counseling, and a self-directed healing plan. His story shows that meaningful improvement is possible even while still on the recovery journey. In this closing portion of Jim's CFS interview, he describes deciding to step away from work so he can fully focus on healing, acknowledging the fear involved and the financial trade-offs he weighed. He credits coaching support, daily journaling (including rereading old journals to spot unhelpful patterns), restored sleep rhythm, dietary changes, and a brain-retraining program for helping him feel steadier. He frames his illness as an invitation to rebalance his life, and both he and the host treat full recovery as a hoped-for next step rather than something already achieved.
